This class is designed for CPAs who want to add and/or grow Forensic Accounting/Expert Witness services as a part of their firm. From the beginning of understanding the legal system to the role of the expert forensic CPA, the basics of the legal process are examined. A review of various types of forensic cases and subsequent reporting, testimony, depositions, declarations and opinion reports are addressed. A mock trial will be conducted to demonstrate the legal process and the CPA's role.

Discussion will also include:

  • Becoming qualified
  • Creating your resume or company profile

What type of rate can I expect to receive as an expert? CPAs as experts could charge $50-$100 more per hour.

What type of hourly rates can I expect to bill law firms for my time? You could get upfront retainers of $1,500-$5,000 and bill law firms for the CPA time they will need. Your firm's billings may increase more than 25%.

Can I charge more for forensic than for tax or accounting services? Yes, you can charge more for forensics than for tax or accounting services: $50-$100 more per hour for work done by CPAs.
